Notes From the Secretary

This month I would like to talk about some of the "behind the scenes" happenings at DAC. In February we announced a grant we received provided by the State of Minnesota from the Arts and Cultural Heritage Fund through the Minnesota Historical Society to establish a Collection Management System and Pilot Inventory. We have begun working on this project and you can se the first few objects on a new web page we have on the MN Collections section of the Minnesota Alliance of Local History Museums site. Our page can be reached by copying this link in your browser https://mncollections.org/Detail/entities/42982.  Seeing all the Danish design objects offered for our auction last month, we realized we can offer another opportunity for you to contribute to DAC and share our cultural heritage with a wider audience. This year and last year's auctions had many objects gifted from estates as well as individuals. Some of these household items we will use and others will go into the "collection." Both give us the opportunity to share our heritage and where better to highlight Danish design that at DAC. If you are downsizing and are looking for homes for Danish art and design objects, consider making a tax-deductible donation to DAC. We will collect objects all year long for the collection or for sale in the spring auction. Our collection criteria include historical artifacts, works of art and manuscripts that support its mission to interpret the history and social fabric of the Danish and Danish American community in the Twin Cities metroplitan area. In years past, many of you just dropped off items in the office. We now ask that you complete a Deed of Gift form when you bring your items in, so we have all the information we need to care for these things. We are especially looking for decorative art objects from artists and designers like Piet Hein, Arne Jacobsen and Bjørn Wiinblad. We would like to trade out many of the utilitarian American objects in our building, like lamps for instance, for Danish design so we are modeling the best in Danish Design every way we can.
